“The very first piano that I heard and touched was our Steinway M, which my parents bought for my brother and me, and is the same one I play and cherish today. The hours I have spent with this instrument, not just playing it, but sleeping under it as a child and using it as an imaginary landscape in my personal dance performances, have accumulated in the feeling of devotion I have for Steinways that I have the fortune to play when I travel around the world giving concerts. To play a Steinway is a magical return home to the very essence of why I became a musician in the first place, and why I never questioned that I would be anything else in this life.”
